Es kommt zu zahlreichen kleinen Gags und Zwischenfällen, an denen uns David Merveille in der poetischen und zugleich humorvollen Bildsprache Jacques Tatis teilhaben lässt. Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot (French: Les Vacances de M. Hulot; released as Monsieur Hulot's Holiday in the US) is a 1953 French comedy film starring and directed by Jacques Tati.

Behind the camera, however, Tati was a meti… My first review here and felt compelled to add it after watching this movie. On the surface this is a charming faux-travel movie where the titular character drives through a series of whimsical scenes with recurring characters reminiscent of the famous Monsieur Hulot. In Jacques Tati’s TRAFIC, the bumbling Monsieur Hulot, kitted out as always with tan raincoat, beaten brown hat, and umbrella, takes to Paris’s highways and byways. In this, his final outing, Hulot is employed as an auto company’s director of design, and accompanies his new product (a “camping car” outfitted with absurd gadgetry) to Pet Hats & Wigs Pet Jackets & Hoodies Mon Oncle, Jacques Tati film, Monsieur Hulot, alternative movie poster Illustrationstefano.

This pipe-smoking eccentric, constantly attired in a gabardine raincoat and hat, was modeled upon a real individual: an architect who rebuilt Saint-Malo after the bombing of Normandy.

Monsieur Hulot comes to a beachside hotel for a vacation and accidentally, but good-naturedly, causes havoc.

There’s actually a surprising amount of similarity between Monsieur Hulot and the Cat in the Hat: each of them are chaos agents who entertain children by disrupting the polite orderliness of the adult suburban world. While the Cat’s well-meaning innocence always comes with a wink, Hulot seems to be the real deal. This three-shot sequence occurs about 70 minutes into the original release version of Mr. Hulot’s Holiday, where its continuity after the first shot is briefly interrupted by a cutaway to a much older boy seated on a donkey while his mother fits him for right-size party hat (which is made to seem like a relatively silly and trivial activity). In the 1978 version, the scene occurs sooner, slightly over an hour into the film, and has an orchestral accompaniment. Rather than revisiting Francois, 'Monsieur Hulot's Holiday' introduces Tati's signature character, Monsieur Hulot, who would appear in four films. Known for his hat, pipe, raincoat, and occasionally stilted movements, the character and many of the bits he performs could easily have been in silent comedies, which help Tati lampoon modernity.
