Hunsdon airfield was built on a natural plateau about 240 feet above sea level. The land once formed part of a hunting estate. This being part of the estate of nearby Hunsdon House. King Henry VIII had the original building, that was built by Edward VII enlarged. The hunting lodge for the estate partially exists on the airfield as Hunsdon Lodge Hunsdon Local History & Preservation Society; Hunsdon Parish Council; Hunsdon Village Hall; Ropemaker Properties Limited; Notable Past Associated Organisations: Falcon Motor Club; The following alternative information/mass media sources have at least potentially significant connections with the airfield (as at 30/11/2018): Eastwick & Gilston RAF Hunsdon was built by several agencies or contractors, the main contractor for the Perimeter Track and Runway's were George Wimpey & Co Ltd, and most of the Building's were built by HJ Janes of Luton Ltd. Work was started on the 9th of October 1940 and the airfield officially opened on the 4th of May 1941.

Trevor had laid a wreath on the Hunsdon airfield memorial since 2006 on behalf of the Lodge Of The Legion, and through his many masonic contacts helped us to raise the necessary funding towards the Hunsdon Roll of Honour memorial dedicated in June 2012. Hunsdon Airfield became operational in 1941. The first unit to arrive at the Airfield (in May 1941) was No. 85 Squadron RAF, flying Boston Havocs. In June No. 1451 Flight RAF was formed. This experimental unit flew Bostons with searchlights fitted in the nose of the aircraft.

The history of Hunsdon airfield is well documented. The first operational unit was No 85 Squadron which operated Hurricanes, but it was the Mosquitos of Nos 464 (RAAF), 487 (RNZAF) and 21 Squadrons which achieved fame with the Amiens Prison raid in February 1944 (`Operation Jericho').
